International internship at the Institute of Chemistry of the MSU

31.07.2025

Between July 17 and  31, 2025, the Institute of Chemistry of MSU hosted a short-term internship conducted by Nicoleta JOSAN, a student at Durham School in the United Kingdom, within the laboratory Chemistry of Natural and Biologically Active Compounds (CCNBA).

Under the guidance of Dr. Marina Grinco and Dr. Vladilena Girbu, and with the approval of the head of the Laboratory CCNBA, Dr. hab. Veaceslav Kulcitki, Nicoleta JOSAN demonstrated a proactive attitude, a strong desire to learn, and a particular interest in the research topics addressed in the laboratory over the course of the two-week intership.

During the internship, the student was actively involved in practical activities and became familiar with modern laboratory techniques, such as thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and column chromatography, used for the separation and purification of organic compounds. She made a valuable contribution to the chromatographic separation of pentacyclic terpenic acids—a complex task requiring precision, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of the polarity of substances.

In addintion, Nicoleta learned to use advanced instrumental analysis methods, including:

Nicoleta Josan's stood out for her professionalism, adaptability, and active involvement in the research process. The Institute of Chemistry of MSU values international collaboration and encourages young people passionate about science to take part in research projects, offering them an environment that support both academic and professional development.
